{UVic Poverty Law Club} Fwd: [cracks-in-concrete] Cracks in the Concrete: Learn-In Update!

here is the info for the teach in/ learn in for those interested....
Hello Victoria anti-poverty groups and collectives,

We're writing to update you on where the learn-in is at. For those of you who want the essentials, here they are:

DATE: May 13 - May 15th
LOCATION: BCGEU at 2994 Douglas St.
WEBSITE: http://cracksintheconcrete.org/

The weekend is coming together! So please circle May 13-15 on your calendars and make plans to head down to the BCGEU to talk strategy, learn and share skills, and build a stronger anti-poverty community.

We are a diverse set of people organizing the learn-in, and an even more diverse community working to bring a systemic analysis to combating poverty. We hope the content of the learn-in will reflect this rich body of practices and perspectives from which we approach our work.

With an emphasis on diversity in mind, the learn-in will revolve around hands-on skill learning, thematic discussions, and closing plenary sessions that attempt to bring together the cumulative insights of participants expressed throughout the day.

In the next week we will be sending out specific requests for workshop proposals. These will range from doing anti-colonial indigenous solidarity work to issues related with land, housing, health and community support.

We will kick the weekend off on Friday night with an opening panel, food and entertainment. We're excited to announce that Harsha Walia from No One Is Illegal Vancouver will be one of our opening panelists, and there's more to come. You'll also be seeing a poster around town soon and hearing from us in person!

But don't wait for us to come to you! If you would like to get involved with outreach, or with organizing entertainment or food, come to our next general organizing meeting. Our next meetings are:

* March 28th
* April 11th
* April 25th

Meetings are at 7 pm at Camas Books, 2590 Quadra (@ Kings). Camas is a wheelchair-accessible space, but the washroom regrettably is not. Bus tickets will be available for those who need them. A children's play area is available.

{UVic Poverty Law Club} Theatre Workshop opportunity

Hello all,

If any of you will continue to be in Victoria in May, there is a great opportunity to be involved as a participant in a forum theatre workshop that will be held at the Anti-poverty Teach-in.  The workshop explores experiences and resistance to police brutality, and frames this as part of Copwatching initiatives.  The brochure is attached and the first workshop will be held this Saturday.

Take care,
Emily
